An in home bar, doesn't everyone need one? Of course, and one reinvented by first grade artistic flare is the best!
This project was a collaboration of the skills of 25 first grade students in Mrs. Adlum's class. We were able to find the piece of furniture in the "free" section of craislist. I cut out thin pieces of wood for all the art infill spaces and took them to school. The kids were given double stick foam tape and bottle caps. Each kid got a board to decorate. Afterward, I took them home and attached the pieces to the cabinet.
Then came the toxic fun! Using a boundary of wine corks and hot glue, I was able to use a clear epoxy resin to embed the bottle caps around the mirror and under each side cabinet. It took several coats with dry time in between. But the outcome was a glassy finish.
The piece sold at auction for $350. Not bad, considering we only spent $80 on the materials to make it.
Did you find the googly eyed smiley face?
